The Department of Immigration in Petauke has detained three undocumented Ethiopians following a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the lives of the Zambian Driver, Peter Phiri and two other Ethiopians, and left three others hospitalized.
The road traffic accident occurred on 22nd November, 2024 at around 01:00 hours between Sinda and Petauke, when a red Honda Fit Registration number ARC 6609 ZM overturned due to over speeding.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the eight Ethiopians were being smuggled by the deceased Zambian,” said Immigration Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshinka, has said statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
And Mr. Nshinka said the Department of Immigration in Lusaka on Saturday, 23rd November, 2024 removed 137 illegal immigrants from the country in a mass removal exercise.
“Those removed were 74 Burundians, 49 Tanzanians, and 14 Rwandese,” said Mr. Nshinka.
He said the Lusaka removal exercise brought the number of illegal immigrants removed from the country between 22nd and 24th November, 2024 to 158.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nshinka said the Ndola Regional Immigration Office on Friday, 22nd November, 2024 effected the deportation of a 40-year-old female Congolese national Mutonkole Lylian Sombwe, after she was convicted for unlawful possession of a Zambian National Registration Card, concealing of true identity.
