The Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) has encouraged citizens to embrace traditional medicine as a viable option for primary healthcare.
ZNPHI Infectious Disease Specialist Paul Zulu, emphasized the importance of integrating traditional remedies into modern medical practices through rigorous scientific research.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Dr. Zulu said that traditional medicine is part of the Zambian culture that can help the nation tackle the growing burden of diseases like cancer.
“There is need to identify which remedies are both effective and safe for public use, while also recognizing the potential for further developments of certain treatments,” said Dr. Zulu.
Dr. Zulu also underscored the role of the National Health Research Authority (NHRA) in ensuring that research into traditional medicine adheres to ethical standards and prioritizes public safety.
