Government has reiterated its commitment to fostering partnerships that close the gap between knowledge and practical application, as the Zambia Metrology Agency (ZMA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with five universities during the commemoration of World Metrology Day.
The event, held in Lusaka today under the theme “Measurements for All Times, for All People,” saw ZMA formalize collaboration with Mukuba University, the Copperbelt University, ZCAS University, Lusaka Apex Medical University and Mulungushi university.
Speaking at the event, Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary for Teaching Services, Kelvin Mambwe, who represented Education Minister, Douglas Syakalima, described the MoU as a significant step towards aligning education with national development goals.
“Metrology, the science of accurate and traceable measurements, is fundamental to modern society,” said Dr. Mambwe.
Meanwhile, ZMA Executive Director Humphrey Nkobeni said the MoU represents a strategic move to bridge the gap between metrology and higher learning institutions.
He noted that the agreement will not only foster collaborative research but also promote co-creation of innovative solutions to address challenges faced by industry and society.
And speaking at the same event, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Chipoka Mulenga said this year’s theme resonates with the rapid evolution of global measurement systems and the need to develop new techniques.
“This theme underscores the importance of innovation in measurement science and its role in supporting economic development and industrial competitiveness,” said Mr. Mulenga.
