The Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) has called for stricter discipline among medical professionals following an increase in complaints about misconduct and unethical behavior in the healthcare sector.
Association President Kaumba Tolopu says ZMA has continued to receive reports of medical personnel failing to meet ethical standards, including instances of negligence and patient mistreatment.
Speaking during a meeting between UTH Management and the Health of Minister Dr. Elijah Muchima on the quality of healthcare service delivery in the country, Dr Tolopu emphasized the importance of restoring public trust in the healthcare system.
There is need to ensure people are taken to task if they are being unprofessional and unethical,” said Dr. Tolopu.
He said maintaining a high standard of care is essential for the well-being of the Zambian people.
Dr. Tolopu has since called for discipline as government assures to strengthen oversight of healthcare services.
