Zimba Town council in Southern Province has confiscated some drinks suspected to be counterfeit, being produced in unsanitary conditions without any legal documents, in Mawaya Compound.
The operation was conducted yesterday in collaboration with other government departments.
According to Zimba Council Assistant Public Relations Officer, Mastone Moonze, council and state police pounced on a shop belonging to a Mushiba Chingundu,a local businessman who has been preparing 2 and 5 liters of Juice drinks branded ‘FEEL GOOD’ at Zimba main market using uncertified ingredients.
Mr. Moonze said in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today that the operation was effected after a tip off from the members of the community regarding a bitter drink that has been on the market supplied by the said Mr.Chingundu.
“The officers led by Environmental Health Technician Mambwe Musonda Kaemba managed to confiscate 172 bottles of drinks packed in 2 liters and the other 4 bottles of drinks packed in 5 liters suspected to be counterfeit”, said Mr. Moonze.
He said the businessman was later apprehended and surrendered to Zimba police for further investigations after it was discovered that his business was running without any legal documents from the council.
Mr. Moonze advised the members of the public in Zimba to be mindful of places they buy food to protect their health.
