ZIA COMMENDS CLOSURE OF SOCIETY BUSINESS PARK

The Zambia Institute of Architects (ZIA) has commended National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) for closing the Society Business Park, due to lack of structural integrity of some of the load-bearing columns.

On Wednesday last week, NAPSA announced that it had shut down Society Business Park due to a structural failure.

ZIA President, Fidelis Kabwiri, has since demanded  that a thorough investigation be conducted by respective professional bodies to ascertain the roles the client, consultants, and contractor played that contributed to the structural failure.

“The investigations should include a detailed review of the contract documents, construction methods employed, and compliance with existing building codes and regulations,” said Mr. Kabwiri in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka.

He said ZIA is committed to holding accountable any parties found to have neglected their responsibilities in the design or construction process.

Mr. Kabwiri said ZIA is ready to work with NAPSA, through the expertise of its members to find a design solution to Society Business Park so that it can be opened for business at the earliest opportune time.
