ZESCO Limited has convicted Oliver Musonda and Patrick Mukuka with hard labour, for theft of ZESCO copper cables and malicious damage to a ground mounted transformer.
ZESCO Limited Spokesperson, Matongo Maumbi says these convictions are a step forward in the company’s efforts to combat vandalism, theft and related crimes.
Mr. Maumbi revealed that Mr. Musonda aged 19 was sentenced to three years imprisonment when he was caught digging up an armoured copper cable valued at K11,537.20 on October 29,2024 while Mr. Mukuka aged 27 was sentenced to five years imprisonment for tampering with transformer cables, causing a power outage and property damage valued at K11,327.78.
“In the week just ending, ZESCO recorded 11 arrests and secured two critical convictions, highlighting the Corporation’s dedication to protecting public resources
and ensuring uninterrupted power supply to our customers,” said Mr. Maumbi in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Mr. Maumbi reiterated ZESCO Limited’s unwavering commitment to combating vandalism, theft and corruption.
He has since urged the public to partner with the Corporation by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station or ZESCO office.
