ZEMA APPROVES 150 PROJECTS WORTH $2.9 BILLION

The Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has approved 150 projects with a total investment value of $2.9 Billion.

This was during the Environmental Assessment Committee meeting where 153 projects were being considered for investments.

ZEMA Board Chairperson, Lovejoy Malambo, says the 150 projects represents a 29% increase from the 116 projects approved during the September, 2024 sitting of the Committee.

Professor Malambo said that the Mining and Mineral processing sector continues to record the highest number of approved projects with 100 projects approved at an investment cost of $2.1 Billion, followed by the Energy Sector with 19 approved projects at a total cost of  $765 Million.

“Additional approvals included 15 projects under the Manufacturing and Processing sector, 9 projects under the Infrastructure Development sector, 4 projects under Tourism and 3 projects in the Agriculture and Forestry sector,” said Proff. Malambo.

He said that among the manufacturing and processing projects approved is the proposed establishment of a Sorting, processing and marketing facility for solid waste recyclables in Livingstone District.
