ZCSA CALLS FOR MARKET COMPLIANCE AHEAD OF WORLD FOOD SAFETY DAY

As Zambia joins the international community in commemorating  World Food Safety Day tomorrow, June 7,2025, the Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has reiterated its call for full compliance with national food safety standards, stressing that awareness alone is not enough to protect consumers from harmful or substandard products.

The Agency has expressed concern that despite ongoing awareness campaigns, a significant number of traders and suppliers continue to flout compulsory food safety regulations, putting public health and consumer trust at risk.

“While ZCSA acknowledge the impact of its awareness programmes in increasing knowledge among market players, the Agency is still seeing high levels of non-compliance, particularly in the handling and sale of food products,” said ZCSA Senior Public Relations Officer Brian Hatyoka in an interview with RCV News today.

Mr. Hatyoka has since called on consumers to exercise caution and responsibility when purchasing food by ensuring that they buy food which is properly packaged and certified.

The 2025 World Food Safety Day will be commemorated under the theme: “Food Safety; Science in Action”.
