ZCCP HIGHLIGHTS ZAMBIA’S PROGRESS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST GBV

Zambia Centre for Communications Programme (ZCCP) Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Wiza Siwale, has emphasized Zambia’s progress in gender-based violence (GBV) reporting and data utilization at the ongoing Southern African Development Community (SADC) conference on GBV Reporting, Research, and Data Use.

Speaking on the sidelines of the high-level conference in Sandton, South Africa, Ms. Siwale said the event has provided a valuable platform for stakeholders to exchange lessons, share best practices, and discuss effective strategies for combating GBV.

She noted that the Zambian government, through relevant ministries, is strengthening collaboration with stakeholders to enhance GBV service provision.

Ms. Siwale also highlighted the expansion of the GBV Information Management System, facilitated by civil society organizations such as ZCCP, which has improved real-time data collection and enabled informed decision-making in GBV management nationwide.

Meanwhile, Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) Gender Analyst, Petronella Kaputu, underscored the importance of the conference in fostering regional cooperation and knowledge-sharing on GBV interventions.

Ms. Kaputu noted that Zambia’s progress in achieving gender equality and equity across various development sectors is reflected in data collected from the Zambia Police Victim Support Unit (VSU), which is instrumental in updating the country’s gender status report.

This is according to a statement issued to RCV News by First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambian Embassy in South Africa, Tamara Nyirenda.
