Minister of Information and Media, Cornelius Mweetwa, has urged the Zambia News and Information Services ZANIS, to produce more documentaries and news programs that keep informed on what government is doing, to ensure the public is not misled by unscrupulous people.
Mr. Mweetwa says this will ensure that the people are well informed and can actively participate in national development.
He said this during the official opening of the ZANIS Training Workshop on TV Production and News Writing being facilitated by the Zambia Institute of Mass Communication Education Trust in Lusaka today.
“An informed populace is key for the successful implementation of government policies, programs and projects”, said Mr. Mweetwa.
Mr. Mweetwa said government is committed to supporting media personnel in their professional growth and ensuring that they have tools and knowledge necessary to excel in their professional undertakings.
He has since urged the over Fifty ZANIS District Information Officers participating in a 5-day training workshop to embrace the training with enthusiasm and dedication adding that it is an opportunity for growth and development that will not only benefit them but also the quality of service they provide to the people.
And speaking at the same event, Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary, Thabo Kawana, says the training marks the first phase of a comprehensive capacity-building initiative planned by the Ministry.
Mr. Kawana said the aim of the initiative is to significantly improve the quality of information and media services in the country.
He said the training will cover different topics including Video graphics designing, Feature writing, studio management and Sound recording among others to enable the District Information Officers deliver professional content.
