The Zambia Medicines and Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) has revealed a significant reduction of applications backlog for registration and approval.
The Authority has attributed the progress to increased technical staff, and the implementation of new efficiency measures with support from international partners such as the European Union among others.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, ZAMRA Director of Marketing Authority, Lyoko Nyambe disclosed that the backlog, which once surpassed 3,000 applications, has been brought down substantially with about 200 first-time applications remaining to be assessed.
Mr. Nyambe clarified that most of the remaining cases are applications already under review, awaiting responses from applicants to queries raised by the Authority.
“There is currently no backlog of new applications waiting for evaluation,” said Mr. Nyambe.
He further said the improvements signal a major step forward for ZAMRA as it continues to streamline operations and speed up the approval process for medicines and health products.
