The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA), in collaboration with key partners including the Global Fund, UNFPA, USAID, and WHO, has commenced a high-level planning meeting aimed at forecasting and quantifying Zambia’s health commodity requirements for the 2026–2028 period.
In a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today ZAMMSA Senior Corporate Communications Bradley Chingobe Manager the planning also supports budgetary decisions, guides donor investments, and enhances responsiveness to emerging public health needs.
“Effective forecasting and quantification are cornerstones of modern supply chain management as it will enable Zambia to optimize inventory, reduce costs, minimize wastage, and most importantly guarantee that essential medicines are available when and where they are needed,” said Mr. Chingobe.
Mr. Chingobe highlighted that the strategic exercise, centred on Family Planning, Essential Medicines, and Medical Supplies including oncology and renal therapies is a critical component of national health planning.
He said by leveraging robust data and predictive models, the process aims to accurately estimate commodity requirements, align procurement plans, and ensure uninterrupted availability of life-saving medicines.
