ZAMBIANS URGED TO INVEST IN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES

Energy expert Boniface Zulu has urged Zambians to invest in alternative sources of energy such as solar, to cushion the impact of the ongoing load shedding.

His remarks follow a recent announcement by ZESCO that load shedding will not end this year, although the power utility anticipates a reduction in blackouts starting July.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka , Mr. Zulu said while ZESCO’s update is welcome, it is important for Zambians to begin planning for the future and not rely solely on the national grid.

“It is important that Zambians consider solar energy,” said Mr. Zulu.

And commenting on a statement by the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) that it is considering constructing additional dams to boost power generation, Mr. Zulu criticized the delayed action.

He said the authority should not have waited for the country to face a power crisis before initiating such critical infrastructure projects.
