A high-level delegation from Zambia, comprising officials from the National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) and the Ministry of Health, has arrived in Brazil for a government-to-government benchmarking program.
The delegation, led by NHIMA Director General, Micheal Njapau, is in Brazil for a government-to-government program aimed at exploring best practices in healthcare financing, social protection, and drug supply systems.
“This visit underscores the strong bilateral relations between Zambia and Brazil and reflects the shared commitment of both nations to improving our healthcare delivery and social protection for our citizens,” said Mr. Njapau in a statement issued to RCV News by Zambia Embassy in Brazil, First Secretary for Press Lloyd Kapusa.
Mr Njapau said there is a lot to learn from the Brazilian counterpart, both in terms of how they have been able to take their services to the people through deliberate and intentional efforts, planned programs and how they have correctly put things together.
He said the delegation will engage with Brazilian counterparts to gain insights into the country’s renowned Universal Healthcare System, Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS), its social protection programs, and its innovative approaches to healthcare financing, management of human breast milk bank and drug manufacturing.
Mr. Njapau said other key focus areas of the visit include funding of the Brazilian healthcare system (SUS),
payment mechanisms for healthcare services, linking social protection to health and
funding for HIV/AIDS Programs and Services
among others.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s Ambassador to Brazil, Glyne Michelo, has expressed his gratitude to the Brazilian Embassy in Lusaka and Brazilian government for facilitating this important exchange.
“This benchmarking visit is a testament to the strong bilateral ties between Zambia and Brazil,” said Mr. Michelo.
