Opposition United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) leader, Charles Chanda, says there is need for the country to shift from relying on donor aid and focus on the country’s abundant resources to grow the economy.
“The nation should not depend on external support when it possesses the means to sustain itself,” said Mr. Chanda in a statement issued to RCV News in Luska today.
Mr. Chanda likened Zambia’s current predicament to the biblical story of Lazarus.
And Mr. Chanda said he is concerned regarding the management of public funds under President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration.
He cited the recent Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) report, revealing over 13 billion kwacha involved in suspicious financial transactions.
“It appears that public money is slipping into private hands, while the authorities are merely watching as if nothing is amiss. This unacceptable oversight must end now,” said Mr. Chanda.
He urged government to prioritize the recovery of the misplaced funds and align the policies to better serve the Zambian people.
