ZAMBIA INVITES EU TO OBSERVE 2026 GENERAL ELECTIONS

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, has invited the European Union to observe Zambia’s upcoming General Elections in 2026.

Mr. Haimbe made the invitation during a bilateral meeting with the President of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, David McAllister, on the sidelines of the African Union- European Union Ministerial meeting being held in Brussels, Belgium, focused on strengthening Zambia-EU relations in the areas of democratic governance, electoral transparency, and institutional cooperation.

During the engagement, Mr. Haimbe expressed Zambia’s appreciation for EU’s role in observing the 2021 General Elections and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding democratic values.

“The recent legal reforms, including the repeal of the law on the Defamation of the President is part of Zambia’s broader efforts to promote media freedom and safeguard civil liberties,” said Mr. Haimbe in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today by First Secretary Press and Public Relations at the Zambian embassy in Brussels Belgium, Hambaya Munang’andu.

And in response Mr. McAllister, commended Zambia’s democratic progress and peaceful political environment.

He reaffirmed the EU’s readiness to continue supporting Zambia and other like-minded nations committed to democratic principles and good governance.
