ZAMBIA – EGYPT PARTNERSHIP TO TRANSFORM AGRICULTURE SECTOR

The Ministry of Agriculture says the collaboration between Zambia and Egypt on food production using irrigation presents a transformative opportunity for Zambia’s agricultural sector.

This week, President Hakainde Hichilema said Zambia and Egypt will collaborate on food production using irrigation.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Ministry of Agriculture Principal Public Relations Officer, Balewa Zyuulu, said given Egypt’s expertise in irrigation and desert farming, key areas of focus will include advanced irrigation technologies, climate-smart agriculture and sustainable water management practices.

“Knowledge transfer on high-yield crop varieties, greenhouse farming and Agri-processing can significantly enhance productivity,” said Mr. Zyuulu.

He also added that small-scale farmers stand to benefit immensely through access to modern irrigation systems, technical skills development and improved market opportunities.

Mr. Zyuulu further added that for Zambian citizens, the benefits are clear-greater for food availability, stable prices and improved livelihoods.
