ZAMBIA ADVOCATES FOR INTERNATIONAL DISABILITY INCLUSION

Minister of Community Development and Social Services Doreen Mwamba  says there is need to enhance efforts in the promotion of disability inclusion.

Ms. Mwamba said this during the General Debate when she delivered a pre-recorded statement at the ongoing 17th Session of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at the United Nations Headquarters in New York being held under the theme, “Rethinking disability inclusion in the current international juncture and ahead of the Summit of the Future.”

She said Zambia, like many developing countries, has been challenged in its efforts to attain disability inclusion by various global factors.

“While the state party has made tremendous efforts to enhance disability inclusion in the development agenda, there were still many gaps in the realization of disability inclusion”, said Ms. Mwamba.

Ms. Mwamba said there is need to step up actions and put in place strategies to speed up the actualization of disability inclusion and foster sustainable interventions for the future.

She said to address the discrepancies affecting people living with disabilities, Zambia is working on improving the capacities aimed at fostering sustainable livelihoods.

This is contained in a statement made available to RCV News by First Secretary Press and Public Relations, Permanent Mission of Zambia to the United Nations Namatama Njekwa.
