WORLD VISION UNVEILS “ENOUGH CAMPAIGN” TO COMBAT CHILD HUNGER

World Vision has announced plans to launch the global “Enough Campaign” this November, which will impact 1.5 million children, to complement government’s efforts in ending hunger and malnutrition.

World Vision President and Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Morley, made the announcement during a courtesy call on President Hakainde Hichilema at State House this morning.

Mr. Morley said he was happy to meet with President Hichilema at a time when Zambia is facing significant challenges, including a severe drought, to discuss strategies for strengthening collaboration and mitigating the impact of climate change.

He said World Vision addresses issues that negatively impact children and hinder their ability to reach their full potential, such as unsafe migration, child marriage, low birth registration, child labour, and sexual and physical abuse.

Mr. Morley highlighted several projects that world vission has completed in Zambia including,  the sinking and equipping of over 1,600 handpumps, rehabilitating of 725 non-functional water points, and constructing of more than 447 solar-powered piped water systems in communities, schools, and healthcare facilities, among others.

He  said World Vision has reached over one million people, 91 schools, and more than 92 healthcare facilities with improved sanitation.

Mr. Morley further committed to supporting Zambia’s vision of resilience and to offering help in the country’s needy areas.

Speaking during the same meeting, President Hichilema thanked World Vision for the long standing partnership, saying he wants to see it growing, especially amid the drought situation in Zambia.

President Hichilema said the drought situation exposed Zambia’s energy insecurities due to dependence on hydro power.

The President however said the next drought will find Zambia stronger and asked World Vision to help Zambia by investing in Solar power across schools and health facilities.
