The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has combined efforts with other stakeholders to improve the state of Michael Sata Market Road in Lusaka’s Chinika Ward.
The works to make the road accessible and safe for road users is being coordinated by the Lusaka City Council Engineering Department and a stretch of 600 metres has been worked on.
LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, says the council allocated K400 000 under the 2024 Ward Development Fund towards the upgrade of the road.
She said the amount allocated by LCC has been added to expenses contributed by other stakeholders for initial stages of the road works such as drainage excavations.
“The road was in poor condition and was usually impassable in the rainy season which resulted in low sales for the traders at nearby Markets,” said Ms. Mwamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
She said installation of key access points along the same road has been concluded and that this will provide remedial measures to avert floods that usually occur in rainy season due to lack of proper drainage system along the road and in BH market.
