WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN KALINGALINGA

Police in Lusaka have launched an investigation into the suspected murder of a 31-year-old woman identified as Nalishebo Sikundu, whose body was discovered early this morning in Kalingalinga Compound.

Zambia Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased’s body was found at approximately 05:30 hours by, Mervis Chinsungwe, aged 55, a resident of Kalingalinga who reported discovering the naked body of an unidentified woman lying in the unfenced yard of her residence.

Mr. Hamoonga said officers who immediately visited the scene confirmed that the deceased was found naked and in a state of rigor mortis.

“Notable observations included hematomas around the neck area, suggesting possible strangulation and a pair of torn underwear, believed to belong to the deceased, was found in two separate pieces near the body,” said Mr. Hamoonga in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He added that initial inquiries revealed that the deceased had recently moved out of her aunt’s home and was living alone at the time of her death.

“Preliminary interviews with occupants of the nearby house indicated that no one heard any unusual noise or disturbance during the night,” said Mr. Hamoonga.

He said that the body has since been transported to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, adding that an inquiry file has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.

He has appealed to members of the public with any relevant information to assist the police in the investigation.
