Governance expert Wesley Miyanda has emphasized the need for collective efforts in combating child defilement and the abuse of women and girls.
Mr. Miyanda stressed that addressing these issues requires the collaboration of dedicated minds to develop strategies that ensure perpetrators are held accountable without compromise.
In an interview with RCV News following the nation wide protest against GBV by the Women’s Movement today, Mr. Miyanda expressed his belief that protests are not a solution to tackling child defilement and similar issues.
He has called for political will from leaders, including political parties and law enforcement agencies, to ensure that offenders are brought to justice and properly punished.
“There must be a unified effort from Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), as well as political and traditional leaders, to work closely with law enforcement to effectively address this problem,” said Mr. Miyanda.
Mr. Miyanda has also urged the judiciary to impose stiff punishment on offenders and avoid issuing lenient sentences.
