The Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) has raised concerns over the mental well-being of individuals who have lost their jobs due to the USAID funding freeze, following reports of a suicide case linked to job loss.
National Mental Health Specialist, Naeem Dalal, has emphasized the need for more safe spaces for mental health conversations, particularly for those affected by the aid freeze.
Speaking to RCV News in Lusaka today, Dr. Dalal stressed the importance of support mechanisms, including psychological care, to help individuals cope with job loss and mental stress.
“At the moment, many households are already facing economic hardships due to the country’s challenging financial situation.,” said Dr. Dalal.
He further urged the public to show compassion and provide emotional support to those affected, emphasizing that collective efforts can help mitigate the psychological toll of job losses.
