The Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ), says it advised NAPSA that the Society Business Park did not meet the designed specifications upon its construction in 2021.
Yesterday, NAPSA announced the immediate closure of Society Business Park due to safety concerns of the structure.
EIZ President, Wesley Kaluba, says in 2021 EIZ conducted a technical audit of the Society House in Lusaka, during which a comprehensive assessment was undertaken, saying that portions of the structure did not meet the designed specifications.
“Following thorough investigations, EIZ identified significant issues that posed risks to both the safety of the structure and the occupants of the building,” said Eng. Kaluba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He said that the institute presented recommendations to NAPSA, advising that the structure was unsafe for continued occupancy.
Eng. Kaluba has however announced that EIZ has initiated internal processes to determine if any professional misconduct by its members contributed to the structural failures identified.
He has therefore advised all contracting authorities to ensure only registered engineering professionals are engaged, to ensure accountability and adherence to the code of ethics and to report all non-conformances.
