Office of the Vice President has urged law enforcement agencies to swiftly clamp down on perpetrators of sexual abuse in communities.
Vice President Press Aide, Njenje Chizu, has expressed concern over the rising cases of child defilement in the country, describing the trend as alarming and disheartening.
Mr. Chizu emphasized that the Children’s Code Act No. 12 of 2022 prohibits child defilement, sexual exploitation, and abuse.
“The prevalence of child defilement cases has reached distressing levels, often driven by social, cultural, and economic factors, as well as substance abuse and family history,” said Mr. Chizu in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He further noted that offenders not only violate children’s rights but also expose them to early marriages, teenage pregnancies, HIV/AIDS, and severe psychological trauma.
And Mr. Chizu reaffirmed government’s commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of all children.
