VEEP STRESSES NEED TO TACKLE LABOR MARKET CHALLENGES

Government has called for collective efforts to address Labor market challenges, highlighting the importance of inclusive policies, resource allocation for Labor market reforms, and enforcement of decent work standards.

Speaking at the 51st African Governing Council Meeting and High-Level Symposium, Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, stressed the need for collaboration to strengthen Labor market systems and overcome shared challenges.

“Creating inclusive economies that empower every worker and leave no one behind is a key milestone,” said Mrs. Nalumango.

Meanwhile, International Labour Organization (ILO) Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Africa, Fanfan Kayirangwa, represented by ILO Country Office Director for Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique, Wellington Chibebe, emphasized the importance of understanding the drivers of informality across different worker groups, enterprise categories, and local contexts to develop effective strategies.

Mr. Chibebe added that ILO is committed to strengthening the capacity of social partners to engage in dialogue on transitioning to a formal economy while providing services to workers and enterprises in the informal sector.
