VEEP SLAMS MISINTERPRETATION OF HH’S REMARKS ON CONSTITUTION

Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, says people purporting that President Hakainde Hichilema wants to hold on to power for 8 years have misconstrued the context in which the president was speaking about lacunas involving article 52(6) of the Zambian Constitution.

Mrs. Nalumango was speaking in the National Assembly this morning during the Vice President Question Time, when she responded to a question from Kwacha Member of Parliament, Charles Mulenga, who wanted to get clarity on alleged lacunas in the constitution when President Hichilema opened the 4th session of the 13th National assembly.

She said all well  meaning Zambians  should look at the context and posture of the President when he was speaking and not the mere words uttered .

“People should appreciate the spirit with which he said it,” said Mrs. Nalumango.

She said there is need to tie the notes that exist in the said Article because  anyone can manipulate it later if its not dealt with.

Mrs. Nalumango said President Hichilema would not have mentioned the existing lacunas in  Article 52 (6) if he wanted to manipulate it.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Nalumango said the UPND victory in both ward by-elections held yesterday, indicate that Zambians are happy with UPND policies.

UPND scooped both Chidi and Kabalenge Ward Local government by-elections held yesterday in Zimba and Mwansabobwe districts respectively.

Mrs. Nalumango said Zambian have shown appreciation of UPND policies by voting for the party and want to stay connected to the government .

“They have no time to hunt because they have found the right government,” said Mr. Nalumango when she responded to Katombola Member of Parliament, Clement Andeleki, who wanted to know the meaning of UPND scooping both by-elections.
