VEEP SAYS COST OF LIVING WILL BE WORKED ON

Vice President Mutale Nalumango says the underperforming economy inherited by the UPND government, has made the delivery of their campaign promises on Fuel, Mealie Meal and the general cost of living difficult.

Mrs. Nalumango says the UPND upon assuming  office prioritized dismantling of the debt on fuel and other sectors that deprived economic growth.

Speaking during the Vice President’s Question time in the National Assembly today, Mrs. Nalumango said that despite the country being economically stressed, government will endeavor  to make the life of Zambians better.

“Apart from the debt, global challenges such as climate change and the war in Ukraine have negatively affected the economic gains government is making,” said Mrs. Nalumnago.

She was responding to Kawambwa Member of Parliament, Nickson Chilangwa,  who wanted to know when she will apologize to Zambians for making false campaign promises in 2021.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Nalumango said that the UPND government had no choice but to export the maize stocks it found in 2021, saying that  Food Reserve Agency FRA owed majority of farmers that delivered the said maize.

She said that the export of the maize was necessary to raise money to pay off the farmers.

Mrs. Nalumango was responding to Shiwang’andu  Member of parliament, Stephen Kampyongo, who wanted to know why the UPND government exported the maize stocks it found in 2021.
