The United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) has raised concerns over conflicting data from the recently released 2024 Zambia Bribe Payers Index, which shows a worrying rise in corruption.
The index reveals that the bribery rate has increased by 5.2 percentage points, rising from 10.1% in 2022 to 15.3% in 2024.
UPPZ leader, Charles Chanda, described the surge as alarming, stating that it raises serious questions about governance and accountability in the country.
Mr. Chanda pointed out that the findings contradict the latest Corruption Perception Index, which suggests that Zambia has made progress in fighting corruption, improving by two points.
“This inconsistency is concerning and casts doubt on the government’s integrity,” said Mr. Chanda in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He urged citizens to remain informed and actively demand better governance, emphasizing that a genuine commitment to eradicating corruption is crucial for Zambia’s future.
Mr. Chanda has since called on the UPND government to take the matter seriously and provide clear explanations regarding the contradictory reports.
