UPND WILL FAIL IF THEY IGNORE HIGH FOOD PRICES – HAMBAYI

Economist Trevor Hambayi says the United Party for National Development UPND risk being labelled a failed government, if they do not reduce the cost of essential commodities and food prices.

Mr. Hambayi said this in Lusaka today, when he featured on Christian Voices’ Chatback program on the topic, “ Status of the Economy”.

He said the policies on Free Education, Constituency Development Fund CDF and Debt restructuring will not be considered as progressive, if the cost of commodities on the market remain high.

“Government must look to reduce the prices of essential goods and food items on the market as a matter of urgency,” said Mr. Hambayi.

He has therefore urged government to implement policies that will answer to the challenges on the depreciation of the kwacha such as ensuring that manufacturing industries are Zambian owned.

Mr. Hambayi said that addressing the depreciation of the kwacha has a direct impact on the cost of commodities.
