Director General of Media under the Presidential Support Programme for the ruling UPND, Frank Bwalya, has called on the family of the late former President, Edgar Lungu, and senior members of the Patriotic Front (PF) to reach a consensus with the government to avoid further delays in the repatriation of the late president’s remains.
The government had earlier announced that President Lungu’s body would be repatriated to Zambia on Wednesday, 11th June 2025 but however, the date has since been postponed due to the failure of both parties to reach an agreement.
Addressing the media in Lusaka today, Fr. Bwalya emphasized the importance of cooperation, urging both the family and the PF to heed the calls of traditional and religious leaders who have advocated for unity during this period of national mourning.
“When people are grieving, they may say things out of pain and these moments should not be exploited to cause confusion or break the law,” said Fr. Bwalya.
He also expressed concern over accusations from some PF supporters suggesting that the UPND is responsible for President Lungu’s death, warning that such statements only serve to sow division and disrupt the mourning process.
Fr. Bwalya urged Zambians to disregard inflammatory remarks and focus on mourning with dignity and peace.
