U.S TRADE POLICIES ON AFRICA IS WHAT ZAMBIA NEEDS – CHISANGA

Economist Kelvin Chisanga has welcomed the United States government’s decision to shift its engagement with Africa from aid to trade, describing the move as long overdue.

Mr. Chisanga said Africa has for too long relied on aid from the U.S, which has fostered a culture of dependency.

He noted that a trade-based relationship will help unlock the continent’s economic potential, particularly through the export of raw materials.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Chisanga said the new approach offers Africa and Zambia in particular, a pathway to dignity, self-reliance, and sustainable development.

“This repositions Zambia within a broader scope of global partnerships and sets us on a path towards dignity, self-reliance, and sustainable growth,” said Mr. Chisanga.

He added that such a shift presents an opportunity for Zambia to leverage its abundant natural resources for economic gain, as opposed to relying on donor aid.
