The Zambia Police Service, in collaboration with the Zambia Army Military Police have arrested Wiliki Dube aged 28 and Lloyd Phiri aged 27 for been involved in a fraudulent scheme targeting unsuspecting citizens.
The two suspects were apprehended following a joint operation and have since been charged with multiple offenses related to forgery, uttering false documents, and giving false information to a public officer.
Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga said Mr. Dube was charged for forging an affidavit falsely identifying himself as Geoffrey Chongo Zyeele, secondly for uttering a false document at the National Registration Office, purporting to be Geoffrey Chongo Zyeele among other charges.
Mr. Hamoonga added that Mr. Dube and Mr. Phiri have been jointly charged with giving false information to a Public Officer where Mr. Phiri for signed an affidavit falsely indicating that he is the father of Wiliki Dube while Mr. Wiliki Dube provided false information to a public officer, claiming his name is Geoffrey Chongo Zyeele.
He said Mr. Lloyd Phiri, aged 27, a former civilian employee of the Zambia Army, is accused of facilitating the acquisition of the fraudulent NRC for Mr. Dube, assisting in the scheme that led to significant public deception,” said Mr. Hamoonga.
Mr. Hamoonga said both suspects are accused of using this fraudulent identity to solicit money from members of the public under the pretense of aiding recruitment into the Zambia Army.
“We would like to reiterate that the Zambia Army does not demand payments from prospective recruits and is not currently conducting any recruitment exercise,” said Mr. Hamoonga.
He has further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Police.
