The Turkish Humanitarian Organization, Turkish Red Crescent has donated USD$ 25,000 to the Zambia Red Cross Society to mitigate the impact of cholera affecting the country.
Speaking at the cheque presentation ceremony, the Turkish Red Crescent President, Fatma Yilmaz, said her organization stands in solidarity with Zambia to alleviate the challenges posed by cholera and drought during the 2023-2024 farming season.
Prof. Yilmaz emphasized that the partnership between Zambia and Türkiye reflects shared values of compassion and solidarity, demonstrating the positive outcomes of collective efforts in supporting nations facing adversity.
This follows an appeal made by Zambia’s Ambassador to Türkiye, William Sikazwe, when he called on Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Health, Prof. Dr. Suayip Birinci at the Ministry of Health Head Office in Ankara.
Dr. Sikazwe highlighted the urgent need for assistance to address Zambia’s efforts in combating the cholera outbreak and mitigating the impacts of the drought.
“This donation comes at a critical juncture for Zambia, and it will significantly strengthen efforts in addressing the challenges posed by the cholera outbreak and the prevailing drought”, Dr. Sikazwe stated.
This is contained in a statement issued to RCV News by Zambia’s First Secretary for Press in Ankara, Pamela Ng’andu.
