Minister of Transport and Logistics, Frank Tayali, has described the Southern Africa Railways Association (SARA) Conference and Exhibition 2024, as a platform for unity of purpose in the rail sector.
Speaking yesterday at the SARA Gala Dinner, Mr. Tayali said he was delighted to be part of the occasion that brings together industry leaders, policy makers, and stakeholders who share a common goal of advancing the railway transportation of the SADC region and beyond.
Mr. Tayali urged the SARA Conference and Exhibition 2024 delegates to escalate the realization and implementation of its desires premised on the promotion of interconnectivity and operability of railways in the SADC region and beyond.
He said Railways play a crucial role in regional integration by enhancing connectivity, facilitating trade, and fostering economic and social ties between regions.
Mr. Tayali said improved connectivity reduces travel time, thereby making it easier for people to move between countries and regions.
“Let us not forget that we have a noble task of ensuring that we achieve the desired goal of regional integration through railway connectivity by ploughing our investments in African Railways for the sustainable development of the continent. Africa must develop, and that development starts now with yourselves,” said Mr. Tayali.
He said the call was not only for Governments in the region and SARA, but also to all the private sector players.
Meanwhile, Zambia High Commissioner to South Africa, Mazuba Monze, said the SARA platform has actively brought different railway experts who had an opportunity to interact and engage with stakeholders.
This is contained in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today by First Secretary Press and Public Relations at Zambia’s High Commission in South Africa, Tamara Nyirenda.
