Opposition Leadership Movement Secretary General Jairos Ngoma has reminded government to ensure that the proposed constitutional amendments are translated into local languages to allow ordinary Zambians, especially those in rural areas, to fully understand and participate in the process.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Ngoma said it would be unfair to the Zambian people if clauses set to be amended are only presented in English, thereby excluding a large section of the population from meaningful engagement.
He warned that neglecting grassroots conversations on the constitution could undermine the legitimacy of the entire process.
“So far, the leadership movement has not seen government hold widespread public forums on the constitution using local languages,” said Mr. Ngoma.
He urged government to prioritize inclusive dialogue by ensuring that all citizens, regardless of education level or location, are adequately informed and involved in the constitutional amendment process.
