The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has urged operators of trading outlets to acquaint themselves with mandatory standards governing imported and locally manufactured products, to ensure that only compliant products are sold in their outlets.
ZCSA Executive Director, Gerald Chizinga, says importers and manufacturers of goods that are covered by compulsory standards should meet the requirements of the compulsory standards, relating to their products of choice for such products to be legally supplied on the market.
Mr. Chzinga said this during an engagement meeting between ZCSA and representatives from chain stores.
“The meeting provided the market players an opportunity to appreciate the regulations which they are supposed to comply with when procuring products from different sources,” said Mr. Chizinga in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
And Mr. Chizinga emphasized that consumer protection is not just a role of government agencies alone but that suppliers of products covered by Compulsory Standards must also contribute to consumer protection by supplying safe products.
And Choppies Buyer, Felix Chitwamali, thanked ZCSA for engaging different business operators on compulsory standards.
Mr. Chitwamali said the information shared will supplement internal compliance controls of sourcing and supplying products which meet the minimum standards.
