TONSE ALLIANCE CRITICIZES GOVERNMENT OVER DRUG THEFT SCANDAL

Tonse Alliance National Youth Chairman, Celestin Mukandila, has criticized government for its failure to adequately address reports of drug theft in health facilities, as highlighted by the United States government.

Mr. Mukandila described government’s response of advising diplomats to use the “right channels” when reporting corruption, as unfortunate and dismissive of serious concerns.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Mukandila said government should demonstrate accountability by disclosing the extent of the theft rather than attempting to intimidate diplomats.

“The US Embassy was right to raise red flags in the health sector and as a responsible government, they should have acted swiftly on the revelations instead of going into self-defense mode,” said Mr. Mukandila.

He urged government to be more open to criticism and to take decisive action in a bid to restore public confidence in the health sector.
