THERE IS NEED TO SENSITIZE PEOPLE ON NEW BANK NOTES

Economic expert, Esther Banda, has urged  government to enhance public awareness efforts on the new banknotes, just 26 days before they are set to enter circulation.

Recently, the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) announced the introduction of new banknotes, set to be launched on March 31, 2025, which will include K500, K200, K100, K50, K20, and K10 denominations, among others.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Ms. Banda expressed concern that the central Bank’s current sensitization efforts, limited to television appearances and media briefings, are insufficient, particularly for people in remote areas who lack access to TV and radio.

“Transitioning to a new currency should not be done within a month, especially for business owners and government should have allowed at least six months before rolling out the new banknotes,” said Ms. Banda.

Ms. Banda further warned that limited public awareness could increase the risk of scams, emphasizing that the government should have partnered with churches and schools to educate the masses.
