Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, Jack Mwiimbu, has urged the Department of Immigration to intensify its operations in the newly discovered mining areas across the country.
The Minister has also advised the department to embrace new technologies in the management of immigrants especially now that the government looks to waive visa requirements for more countries.
“This is in order to respond to the current trend where many countries are opening up for tourism, trade and investment,” said Mr. Mwiimbu during the graduation of 367 Immigration Assistants in Lusaka today.
Mr. Mwiimbu has also directed the department of immigration to clean up the perceived corruption in the service.
He said it is displeasing that the name of the immigration has been tarnished in society, as most members of the public perceive the department to be one of the most corrupt institutions hence the need for a thorough clean up.
And Department of Immigration Director General, Japhet Lishomwa, has disclosed that in an effort to enhance the enforcement of its mandate the department will be opening new stations in Chongwe, Chililabombwe and Kalumbila among other districts.
Mr. Lishomwa further said following an approval by cabinet office increased condition of service for uniformed officers from 15% to 68% for junior to senior officers respectively.
