THERE IS NEED FOR A COMPREHENSIVE MAIZE VALUE CHAIN – BANDA

Agriculture Expert, Gilbert Banda, has urged the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) to expand its focus beyond investing in milling plants and work towards developing a comprehensive maize value chain.

Last week, CEEC funded two milling plants in Northwestern Province, a move that successfully stabilized the availability of mealie meal in the region and this development has had a positive impact on the local community, which previously faced challenges in accessing the staple food.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Banda emphasized that strengthening the maize value chain would not only boost maize production but also improve the quality of mealie meal, benefiting consumers across the country.

“By creating a comprehensive maize value chain, we can transform the lives of farmers, suppliers, and entire communities,” said Mr. Banda.

He further noted that this initiative would lead to better prices for farmers and unlock new export opportunities, helping Zambia generate much-needed foreign exchange.
