Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Nelly Mutti has been awarded the 2024 Public Recognition Award at the just ended 2024 Eurasian Women’s Conference held in St Petersburg, Russia.
The conference which was held under the theme: “Women for Strengthening Trust and Global Cooperation” attracted over 1, 500 participants from 126 countries from across the globe, had 11 recipients of the public recognition award.
In a statement to RCV News by National Assembly Media Liaison Officer, Nshamba Muzungu said Ms. Mutti was awarded the recognition for her immense contribution in championing rights for women and being the first female speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia.
Mr. Muzungu said Ms. Mutti has reiterated her call to have proportional representation entrenched in the Constitution as affirmative action to have more women in Parliament and other leadership positions across the governance spectrum.
