SOLAR ENERGY IMPRACTICAL FOR ORDINARY ZAMBIANS- SINYANGWE

Opposition Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) Aspiring Member of Parliament for Matero Constituency in Lusaka, Moffat Sinyangwe, says the solar alternative drive, to tackle Zambia’s energy crisis, is a luxury for the elite since solar equipment is unaffordable to ordinary Zambians.

President Hakainde Hichilema, when he opened the 4th session of the 13th National Assembly sympathized with Zambians over the energy crisis and encouraged people to embrace solar as an alternative source of energy.

But Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Sinyangwe said majority of Zambians are already struggling to provide three meals per day and that asking them to install solar panels on their roofs is not practical.

Mr. Sinywangwe advised government to partner with solar installers to put up the said solar panels on behalf of the Zambians and charge people a minimal connection and subscription fee if need be.

“Those being encouraged to install solar panels do not even have money for food,” said Mr. Sinyangwe.

Mr. Sinyangwe said the presidential speech failed to give a practical solution to the energy crises.

He also said solar panel prices have remained high despite the  tax waiver for the importers.
