SOCIALIST PARTY URGES HH TO ACT ON AILING ECONOMY

Opposition Socialist Party President, Fred M’membe, has called on President Hakainde Hichilema and the United Party for National Development (UPND) to take crucial immediate economic steps to tackle Zambia’s economic difficulties.

Dr. M’membe says the steps should include reconsidering the significant tax privileges being granted to multinational mining corporations.

In a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today by Party Director Media, Brian Hapunda, Dr. M’membe also said there is political turmoil and tension in the country and that Zambians are currently facing substantial economic challenges.

“Alongside the existing debt burden, the nation is grappling with a heightened cost of living, which could potentially lead to civil unrest,” said Dr. M’membe.

Dr. M’membe also underscored the adverse effects of prolonged power outages on businesses and the potential exacerbation of inflation and exchange rate risks due to low crop yields.

He has since urged those in power to take swift action on the matter.
