SIKWINDI CALLS FOR STRONGER OVERSIGHT ON PUBLIC FUNDS

Governance Expert, Situla Sikwindi, has urged government to establish robust oversight mechanisms to monitor the allocation and implementation of public funds, ensuring greater accountability and transparency.

Mr. Sikwindi warned that mismanagement of funds hinders national development and stressed the need for an independent watchdog to oversee fund allocation, allowing the country’s development agenda to progress effectively.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Sikwindi emphasized that the government must consistently demand audit reports and implement oversight measures to prevent financial mismanagement.

“There must be an annual platform for citizens to question and receive reports on how community development funds have been utilized in every district,” said Mr. Sikwindi.

He further recommended the adoption of technical applications to reduce the risk of fund mismanagement and called on district commissioners to be more vigilant in monitoring how councils handle allocated resources.
