SHUT DOWN OF KARIBA NORTH BANK LOOMS

ZESCO Limited Spokesperson, Matongo Maumbi, says Kariba North Bank can only generate power for 4 more months, before a complete shutdown,  due to continued reduced water levels.

Mr. Maumbi said this when he featured on Christian Voices’ Chatback Program on the topic, “Loadshedding”.

He said this follows the worsened situation in the Zambezi river basin that pours its water into Kariba dam for power generation.

Mr. Maumbi said the power utility company will have no choice but to shut down the power station, if the country does not receive any rainfall in the next 4 months.

“The country is experiencing record low water levels at its power generating sites and this may need some to shutdown completely,” said Mr. Maumbi.

Meanwhile, Mr. Maumbi has attributed inconsistencies in the loadshedding  schedule to power imports instability and system failures.

He however said that ZESCO  is resolute to ensuring it implements the load management schedule fairly and effectively.
