SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION FOR TOOTHACHES – GOV’T

The Ministry of Health has cautioned Zambians against the use of battery Acid in the treatment of toothaches.

This week, Limited access to specialized medical services in rural areas continues to push residents towards unsafe remedies, with some in Sikongo District of Western Province resorting to using battery acid to treat toothaches.

But speaking in an interview with the Ministry of Health Principle Public Relations Officer and Spokesperson, Georgia Chimombo said the use of  battery acid for toothaches can instead lead to severe burns, infections and permanent damage to oral tissues.

“The individuals are urged to visit hospitals or health centres whenever they experience toothaches or other health issues,” said Ms. Chimombo.

Meanwhile, a Health Expert, Teddy Mulenga said that the use of battery acid to treat toothaches is a result of many individuals being ignorant and a deep-seated belief in traditional healers and herbs.

Dr. Mulenga said that despite the dangers associated with using battery acid, many individuals continue to rely on this method to alleviate toothache pain.
