SCOPE ZAMBIA CALLS FOR SUPPORT OF ORGANICALLY GROWN FOODS

Scope Zambia, a Non Governmental Organization that works towards the promotion of permaculture in schools, colleges & communities, is calling for Policy changes to support organic growing of food in Zambia.

Organization Senior Finance and Administration, Sakalani Phiri, says organically grown foods are healthier and good for the citizens.

Mr. Phiri was speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, on the sidelines of the local foods competition where 5 schools from Chilanga and Chibombo are participating to raise awareness on the importance and benefits of traditional foods.

He also observed that organic way of farming is cheaper and promotes soil health while other farming methods and use of pesticides destroy the soil.

“Let us feed the soil that feeds us”, appealed Mr. Phiri.

Mr. Phiri said his organisation has been rolling out the traditional foods cooking competition in the selected schools for the past two months.

The cooking competition finale is being held under the theme “ My Food is African.”
