SAFADA SADDENED BY PERSISTENT POVERTY LEVELS IN ZAMBIA

The Small-Scale Farmers Development Agency (SAFADA) has expressed concern over the high levels of poverty in Zambia, despite government’s continued efforts to revive the national economy through various social and economic interventions.

SAFADA Executive Director, Boyd Moobwe, says it is disheartening that, although numerous initiatives have been introduced, their impact on poverty reduction remains minimal due to poor implementation and weak performance indicators.

Mr. Moobwe cited programs such as the Sustainable Agriculture Finance Facility, the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission, the Social Cash Transfer scheme, and the Farmer Input Support Programme as examples of interventions that have yet to deliver significant economic growth or social stability for many Zambians.

“Poverty levels in Zambia remain alarmingly high and the living standards of ordinary citizens are still deplorable,” said Mr. Moobwe in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He has since urged government to critically review how domestic revenue is being utilized and to assess the real impact of its economic and social interventions.

Mr. Moobwe further expressed concern over the underperformance of the agriculture sector, which he described as a key pillar of the economy.

He called on government to involve all citizens in productive activities to spur inclusive economic growth.
